McCrory School District | FEMA Rated Safe Room & Band Room

Completion Date: 2015
Location: McCrory, Arkansas
Architect: Roark Perkins Perry & Yelvington Architects

This 9,500 sf building boasts a free standing, FEMA rated safe room for K-8th school use and includes rooms to be used for special activities such as a Band Room, Lectures, Recreation, etc.

A safe room is a hardened structure specifically designed to meet the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) criteria and provide near-absolute protection in extreme weather events, including tornadoes and hurricanes. Near-absolute protection means that, based on our current knowledge of tornadoes and hurricanes, the occupants of a safe room built in accordance with FEMA guidance will have a very high probability of being protected during the storm event.
